CASE REPORT Magnetic resonance imaging of ulnar nerve abscess in leprosy: a case report

چکیده
A 14-year-old girl on multidrug treatment for borderline tuberculoid leprosy presented with a swelling in her left arm and soon thereafter developed an ulnar claw hand. MRI showed a well-defined ovoid lesion arising from the left ulnar nerve, isointense to muscle onT1W images and hyperintense on T2W and STIR images. On post-gadolinium T1W sequence, the lesion showed peripheral rim enhancement with central necrosis suggestive of abscess. The ulnar nerve proximal and distal to the lesion was thickened and showed mild contrast enhancement. On aspiration the swelling yielded frank pus which was positive for acid-fast bacilli.

متن کاملPrimary Epidural Varicosis as a Rare Cause of Sciatica: A Case Report
Non-discogenic sciatica can be caused by any lesion along the course of the lumbosacral nerve roots and sciatic nerve. We aim to present a rare case of refractory sciatica in an otherwise healthy 25-year-old man. He complained of left leg pain without significant back pain. Extensor hallucis longus muscle was weak on the left side with limited straight leg rising. On magnetic resonance imaging,...

Leprosy is a chronic granulomatous infection, caused by mycobacterium leprae, primarily affecting the peripheral nerve trunks and cutaneous nerves. It classically presents with neural or dermal signs and symptoms. The indolent course of leprosy may manifest as erythema nodosum (appearance of tender inflamed subcutaneous nodule) and reversal reaction (inflammation in the previous skin lesion, ap...
